Learning Target: Calculate & interpret the mean and median (from a list of values & frequency table)

Note: Pick up your note card from the first day on the side table. On the back, tell me if you have any medical concerns or allergies. If you have no medical concerns or allergies, please write “No medical concerns or allergies.”

Warm Up: When an object is dropped from some high spot, the distance it falls is related to the time it has been falling by the formula d=4.9t^2, where t is the time in seconds and d is distance in meters. Suppose a ball falls 250 meters down a mineshaft. Find how long, to the nearest second, it takes the ball to fall this distance.

Goals:
• Get your MIQ out of the blue bin and begin working on it. You may use a calculator if you need to. It should be silent since the MIQ is a mini quiz. On every graph for the x-axis, make the minimum 0, maximum 70, and scale 5. On the y-axis for the histogram, make the minimum 0, maximum 6, and scale 1. On the y-axis for the frequency histogram, make the minimum 0, maximum 3, and scale 0.05. If you have not set yours up this way, please redo it on the other side of the middle line and explain why you set it up as you did originally.
• Fill Out group calendar for Investigation 2.
• Begin calendar work.

HW: Finish the Investigation 2 calendar work your group decided on.

Reflection: To find the mean and median on the calculator, put in all the data into list 1 under stat. Then hit second mode to get back to the clear screen. Hit second stat to go to the list menu, scroll over to math, and select either mean or median. Make sure to type L1 after the ( so the calculator knows where to pull the data from.
